This proposal will contribute to develop integrative decision-support tools that will provide decision-makers information for reductions in nutrient inputs to estuaries in the coastal zone by 1) facilitating regional integration of resources, knowledge and expertise for assessment of water quality and nutrient data at local and regional scales; 2) increasing states’ capacity to identify current nutrient concentration baselines; 3) determining effects stressors (e.g., nutrients, total suspended solids, colored dissolved organic matter) with newly established methodology that uses NASA Earth science data products (remotely-sensed data); and 4) supporting the Gulf of Mexico Alliance Regional Partnership’s goal of establishing nutrient criteria for Gulf coastal ecosystems. These activities will enhance the ability of state partners to establish nutrient criteria for coastal and estuarine waters.
