Atmospheric Composition

Due to the importance of water vapor in upper tropospheric and lower stratospheric (UT/LS) atmospheric processes, the Network for the Detection of Atmospheric Composition Change (NDACC) has recently added water vapor to the list of atmospheric components within its charter to monitor on a long-term basis. We propose to provide inter-calibration measurements of UT/LS water vapor within NDACC using the NASA/GSFC Raman Lidar system known as ALVICE (Atmospheric Lidar for Validation, Interagency Collaboration and Education). We also propose detailed analysis and numerical simulation of NDACC Raman lidar measurements in support of the goal to provide the highest quality water vapor data within NDACC.
