The influence of deforestation in the Amazon on regional climate change by a couple model

Project Description
Previous studies identify that the Amazon rainforest is experiencing a possible dieback and unstable around a tipping point. However, some other studies using different models did not show a similar regime change. The controversy highlights the need to understand how climate over the Amazon responds to the change in surface greenness. I am currently using NCAR Community Earth System Model to investigate whether this dieback appears in fully coupled simulations when certain percentage of the forests is replaced by bare ground and how rainfall and surface condition responds to the change.
