Project Description
We intend to examine temporal trends in winter fog in the Central Valley of California. Our goal is to examine remote sensing images using AVHRR and MODIS and to relate meteorological conditions on the ground with periods when valley fog was detected. Our goal is to use as long a remote sensing time record as possible and augment it with climate records. the testable hypothesis is that global warming is causing winter chill accumulation in the Valley to decrease and this trend is associated with a change in the number of days and spatial extent of valley fog. Our base funding is from the California Energy Commission. Collaborator is Eric Waller of UC Berkeley
