I have a background in Imaging Science (MS) and Environmental Engineering (PhD). My dissertation was focused on mapping burn scars with satellite imagery and modeling post-fire erosion with the WEPP model. My current research interests include fire science, Lidar, and utilizing satellite imagery and products in Environmental models. I especially enjoy modifying environmental models for application to large areas and calibrating and validating physically based environmental models. Recent projects include the development of an online Dry Ravel model for the Forest Service, RavelRat ( and optimizing Lidar waveform noise metrics for retrieving consistent canopy heights. I am currently working on LAI algorithms for hydrological modeling and mapping historical burns in the Arctic Tundra.
