Alex's research examines the link between climate information and climate impacts, using observations and simulations for short-term applications and for projections of the impacts of future climate change. Current interests include the assessment of agricultural impacts in the Southeast US and Central America, as well as around the world through the Agricultural Model Intercomparison and Improvement Project (AgMIP) where he serves as Research Coordinator and Co-Lead of the Climate Scenarios Team. Alex also works with global and regional climate models, satellite observations, and statistical downscaling methods to create climate scenarios for impacts across a range of sectors. He is particularly interested in identifying the important changes in climatic variability that interact with mean climate changes, and improving our ability to observe and simulate these changes.
